City of Harare's Waste Management department is responsible for refuse collection and disposal, providing public toilets in the city center, emptying septic tanks, liquid waste disposal and other related services.

The Waste Management utility currently carries out two key functions i.e.
Waste management services comprising of refuse collection and disposal
Street cleansing and Public Convenience services

The Department offers the following Services

Collection, transportation and disposal of Waste
Street cleaning
Collection and disposal of Industrial Hazardous Waste
Collection and disposal of Medical Waste
Collection and disposal of rubble and any excess solid waste
Emptying of septic tanks and disposal of stercus waste
Incineration Services – out sourced
Availing portable toilets for hire
Providing pay and non-pay toilets on strategic points in the city
Collection and disposal of dead animals
Provision and Management of waste disposal sites
Provision of waste receptacles

 

Waste Management Utility is an autonomous target driven business unit which is 100% owned by the City Of Harare. It operates under Charter on behalf of Harare City Council in terms of Urban Councils Act, Chapter 29:15.
