The City of Harare Health department runs 45 primary health care clinics, 12 polyclinics, which include maternity and family health care services, two infectious diseases hospitals, a clinic specialising in sexually transmitted diseases, two opportunistic infection clinics and a medical examination centre.
It provides laboratory services, pharmaceutical services, voluntary testing for the Human Immuno-Deficiency Virus (HIV) and counselling services.
The family health services include immunisation outreach services, nutrition education for mothers of under-five-year-olds, family planning education and home visits to the elderly, hypertensive patients and tuberculosis patients requiring injections.Health personnel visit and inspect creches and visit disabled people.
They screen primary school pupils for physical problems, psychosocial impairment, nutritional defects and other problems.The department is also responsible for environmental health issues.
