Council is implementing a raft of measures which include negotiating with chemical suppliers and introducing new technology with a view to ensure that residents have access to potable water.
Speaking during End of First Quarter Report held at Town House, Mayor Mafume said Council is making arrangements for the delivery of all the required water treatment chemicals.
He said Council used to have aluminum sulphate availability challenge however the issue has been addressed as deliveries are being made.
Mayor Mafume added that the project for the implementation of the Chlorine Dioxide Technology has also commenced and is ready for commissioning.
"We managed to negotiate with our water treatment chemical suppliers for them to commit to constantly supply us with water treatment chemicals," he said.
He said the move has resulted in an increase in water production from an average of 269 megalitres per day in January to 353 megalitres per day in March 2023.
"There was a bit of stability in the water sector during the first quarter of the year compared to the same period last year," he said.
Mayor Mafume said Council has also managed to replace about 2km of sewer pipes in the first quarter of the year to reduce environmental pollution and improve wastewater conveyance.
He said wastewater treatment capacity was restored by 18 megalitres through the complete rehabilitation of Firle Sewage Works.
