Glenview Residents Praise Waste Collection, Urge Faster Rollout Of Smart Water Metres
Residents of Ward 31 in Glen View South have commended the City of Harare for improved refuse collection under its partnership with Geo Pomona Waste Management, while calling for an expedited rollout of prepaid smart water meters to the suburb.

Residents of Ward 31 in Glen View South have commended the City of Harare for improved refuse collection under its partnership with Geo Pomona Waste Management, while calling for an expedited rollout of prepaid smart water meters to the suburb. Speaking during a feedback meeting on Saturday, Ward 31 Cllr Joshua Pedzisai said residents had noted a “visible difference” in community cleanliness and described the Geo Pomona partnership as one of the City’s notable service delivery successes. “Our residents cannot wait for the smart water meters to reach Glen View. "They believe the programme will improve access to water, eliminate estimated billing and allow households to pay only for what they consume,” Cllr Pedzisai said. Issues discussed during the meeting included roads, water and sewerage, waste management, health, billing, and public lighting. Regarding health and environmental cleanliness, residents urged the City to strengthen emergency services, particularly ambulances at ward level, and to address illegal dumping, which Geo Pomona officials said continues to undermine regular collection efforts. Responding to water and sewer concerns, City of Harare representative Mr Pios Majowa said responses to many faults were delayed due to properties lacking visible stand numbers. He added that Glen View receives water from Monday to Thursday under the City’s equitable distribution schedule, with shutdowns over weekends. Mr Majowa appealed to residents to report bursts early and to grant easy access to Council teams deployed for repair jobs. On broader reforms, officials said the City is replacing ageing water infrastructure with Helcraw Water and rolling out more than 70,000 smart meters citywide. The City is also modernising billing through the BIQ ERP systems. Region 3 Area Manager Mr Mugove Chabuda urged residents to pay rates promptly, saying revenue is vital for road repairs, water and sewer maintenance, and clinic services. District Officer Mr Kudakwashe Mpingashato said meaningful development depends on community participation to protect infrastructure and ensure programmes benefit all residents. Residents welcomed the engagement organised by their Ward Councillor and expressed optimism that ongoing partnerships would continue improving services in Ward 31
