Government has urged Harare City Council to urgently install prepaid water meters as a measure to ensure that all water users pay for the commodity. Speaking after a tour of Morton Jaffray and Warren Control Pumpstation, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Hon Jorum Gumbo called for action by council. "I am keen to see action being taken to plug the water leakages that have bedevilled the city for many years. ”It is my humble submission that the city fathers should expedite the following, carry out a domestic water meter replacement programme, installation of prepaid water meters, attend to illegal water connections and replace obsolete primary and secondary water networks,” he said. Minister Gumbo was however not happy with reported delays in clearing plant and equipment by Zimra meant to improve water delivery. He promised to engage his Finance counterpart Minister Mthuli Ncube. "It has been brought to my attention that the delays in the commencement of works at Warren Control are due to frustrating customs procedures. If indeed that is the case, it flies in the face of the Ease of Doing Business Initiative that the Government has adopted," he said.
